This message was preached by Pastor Jesse Boyd on January 7, 2024 at New Testament Christian Fellowship in Conover, North Carolina. It is the third of his exegetical sermons on Hebrews Chapter 8 in the larger exposition of the Book of Hebrews covered by the shared teaching of the NTCF Elders and its missionaries.
Moving on from the SUMMATION INTERJECTED in verses 1-2 (the very present reality of the manger in Bethlehem), and the heavenly SETTING ILLUMINATED in Hebrews 8:3-6, we come to the SETTLEMENT IMPLEMENTED in verses 7-13. The NEW COVENANT (Jeremiah 31:31-34) was implemented at the First Advent and will be completely fulfilled in the houses of Israel and Judah at the Second Advent (cf. Romans 11:26). That ultimate fulfillment is FORESHADOWED (not fulfilled) in the New Testament Church. The New Covenant’s codicil (Jeremiah 31:35-37) proves this. Simply go outside on a clear night and gaze up at the sky.
Hallelujah, we have “such an high priest,” a mediator of the new covenant, “who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens” (Hebrews 8:1). Let this present reality, and all that follows in Hebrews 8, be our EVER-PRESENT CONFIDENCE in these evil times, days of Christian persecution in America.
