here and back again
Loading up the Subaru with Boxes of Gospel Material for this summer’s Team Yeshua Ministry in both Montana & South Asia
Greetings, beloved brethren, in the name of the Jewish Messiah, the only hope for our salvation. He said,
“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown” (Revelation 3:11).
I apologize for the lull in communication as it has been 2 months since our last ministry newsletter—NINE THOUSAND MILES. Even now, I have little time and must be brief. Your prayers and support are deeply appreciated as we seek to make the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Jewish Messiah, an unavoidable issue for as many people as possible, both Jew & Gentile, all around the world, and just around the corner—while encouraging and exhorting the Body of Christ in the same. It seems like I just got back home to North Carolina, and now, it’s time to go back out again. It’s been said of great adventures “there and back again,” but for us, it seems more like HERE AND BACK AGAIN.
I rejoice to announce: God has raised up four Team Yeshua Big Sky volunteers from four different southern states. We’ve already seen divine provision for some of these, anonymous support coming through at the last minute to meet the initial deadline. And, we are already seeing doors open in both Montana and South Asia. It’s going to be an incredible summer of ministry. What a blessing to train up young people and to give them a taste of real missions at a literal end of the earth!
Today, my son Josiah and I start the long drive back to Montana (something that has become strangely familiar since the events of 11.12.2022). The Team Yeshua volunteers begin arriving in Missoula on June 16th, and we’ll hit the ground running. Thanks to the Vannoy Family who have helped greatly with the provision of a Montana base ahead of our journey to South Asia. But for that 11.12.2022 hate crime, we wouldn’t even know this precious family, now friends in Christ for life!
We covet your prayers. The Montana training phase will roughly until July 17th. Then, we will be laboring together in South Asia until the end of August. For security reasons, I’m not going to go into too much detail right now about that part. Suffice it to say, it’s exciting to go back a decade later and repeat the work of our very first Team Yeshua (all of them married with families of their own now), this time with a new group of young people who love Jesus and want to tell others about Him, even in places where outspoken Christians have typically been and remain hated. Lord willing, Jamie will be joining us out in Montana in a couple weeks and will be with us the entire time, aside form a quick trip back to North Carolina in July. Pray for my daughter Charlotte, who just graduated high school. She has a good little job and will be remaining behind to help caretake the home. Mom and dad are a little nervous, but the Lord will take care of everything. He always does.
Praise Him for His provision in supplying us with all the needed Gospel materials, fresh off the presses! For the first time, I have been able to print our Hebrew & English Trekker Tracts here in America. We’ve also printed more Ladakhi Scripture cards and have stocked up on Hindi and Urdu tracts, courtesy of Fellowship Tract League (a great resource). Thanks to the Society for the Distribution of the Hebrew Scriptures for providing more backpacker-sized Hebrew NTs and really-nice English KJVs. Finally, by God’s grace, I’ve written and printed my first “book,” actually more of a Gospel booklet, a step up from a typical tract. Born out of the testimony of what happened to us in Montana during #TheLongWalkUSA, Rotten At Heart speaks to the fallacy of trying to fix spiritual problems with political solutions. I was able to print 250 copies of these and aim to distribute them to those with whom we can have meaningful conversations about the things of the Lord. You can read it for yourself, and then join us in glorifying the LORD once again for His deliverance and vindication.
Since I returned from that 9,000-mile ministry circuit at the end of March, we have been very busy getting things ready for Team Yeshua Big Sky. Aside from that, the LORD opened a door for us to join up again with Brother Shawn Holes, a faithful campus preacher our local church supports. We enjoyed a fruitful week of college campus preaching together in Pennsylvania the week before Easter, declaring our Risen Saviour. There were some good encounters, and not a few Christian students were edified.
This young lady was very open to the Gospel on the campus of Penn State.
These 3 Christian young men were much encouraged by the preaching on their campus in Bloomsburg, PA. The man on the right remembered me from last year and thanked me for the discipleship material I had given to him.
We’ve also logged nearly 100 additional cross-walking miles on local spurs branching out from our #TheLongWalkUSA main route here in North Carolina; and that has yielded more than 100 Gospel encounters. It truly was a joy to walk to a cul-de-sac at the end of Chegall Crossing Way, the easternmost point of Gaston County. Near the westernmost point at that same county, amidst the snow and ice of January 11, 2025, Carter & Bethany Phillips were unjustly detained and arrested while running support for me as I walked with the cross. The arresting officer threatened Bethany as she walked out of the Gaston County jail, blustering:
“You tell your dad I’ll be watching him, and I might just come and arrest him myself if I catch him walking in this county.”
Well, Officer Hildebrand, I walked clear across Gaston County quite literally, and as with Paul in Rome at the end of the Book of Acts, “no man forbidding” (Acts 28:31). That verse was the theme verse for our very first Team Yeshua (2015), and the Lord brought it to pass there in Ladakh. He brought it to pass across Gaston County this Spring. Pray that He will do it yet again this summer in South Asia.
This cul-de-sac in a ritzy retirement community is as far east as you can go on a road in Gaston County, NC. I had several Gospel encounters in that neighborhood.
Following the January 11th tyranny, we kept on walking for Jesus, clear across Gaston County and the Catawba River into Mecklenburg County.
As for the unjust arrests in Gaston County, that matter remains ongoing. We give thanks to Almighty God that the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) has taken up Carter and Bethany’s defense free of charge, recognizing the grave constitutional violations at stake. As stated in their March 13, 2025 press release:
“The ACLJ will aggressively defend these Christian missionaries against Gaston County’s unlawful targeting of religious liberty.”
The District Attorney in Gaston County claims to be a Christian and boasted Micah 6:8 as his campaign slogan. Sadly, everything he has done in this matter is quite the opposite of “to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.” Why? The answer is the same as it was in Montana with that professing Christian Attorney General, and I answer it quite frankly in Rotten at Heart. This man, Travis Page, knows he has no case (the US Constitution, the NC Constitution, NC case law, and US Supreme Court precedent are all very clear about “Reasonable Articulable Suspicion of a Crime” … No RAS = No Legal Detainment, Cannot Demand ID), and instead of dropping the charges ahead of the scheduled May 27 trial date, he petitioned the court for a continuance at the last minute. It was granted (surprise, surprise) until July 22nd, thus interfering with the Phillips’ ability to assist with Team Yeshua. We are bummed but trusting the LORD to intervene as He did in Montana. As in Montana, so in North Carolina: NO PLEAS, NO DEALS, TO THE END.
Please understand, my friends: Hypocritical Christ-less conservatism (like what we are seeing out of Gaston County, one of the most politically conservative counties in the entire state) is just as dangerous to a free people as godless liberalism, maybe even more so. Look no further than 1930s Germany for a loud example from modern history. Spiritual problems cannot be fixed with political solutions or political parties.
Oh how we need spiritual awakening in our streets, national repentance for our sins against the LORD, and genuine Holy Ghost revival in our churches!
Please join us in praying for Carter & Bethany’s deliverance, that this matter will be resolved soon so they can come alongside and help with this summer’s Team Yeshua ministry. Pray also for our persecuted Christian brethren at home and abroad. Some in other countries around the world suffer terribly. Remembering these is Christianity 101 (Hebrews 13). If we, the American Church, can’t get Christianity 101 right amongst ourselves, how can we expect anything to change for the better in Washington DC or any state capitol?
Yes, and I’ll say it without apology: There IS Christian persecution in America, and it continues to rise. No, the 2024 election didn’t stop it. The pastor of Grace Bible Church in Bozeman, Montana (where Governor Greg Gianforte—another “conservative” Titus 1:16 professing “Christian” attends) lied to his congregation not long ago when he declared from the pulpit: “There is no Christian persecution in America.” Wrong, I’ve lived it, as have many others I know personally who are faithful to preach the Gospel and carry out the Great Commission here in the United States. Be outspoken with your Bible-believing Christian faith, and I promise you will taste of that persecution. I promise. And I’m sad to report you’ll most likely discover its source to be those who profess to be your brethren in Christ—“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate” (Titus 1:16). Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.
These last couple of months, I’ve had the privilege of preaching verse-by-verse through the 5th Chapter of James at our local church, New Testament Christian Fellowship. In the context of the conditions that abound in these last days (5:1-6), what ought the conduct of remnant believers to be? James 5:7-16 lays it out plain. We are to be patient (5:7-8), peaceable with one another (5:9), to persist (5:10-11), put away profane swearing (5:12), pray (5:13a), praise (5:13b), pray more (5:14-15), stop pretending with each other (5:16a), and PRESUME THE GREAT SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLE OF 5:16b TO BE ABSOLUTELY TRUE:
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
We know it is right to do these things, and when we choose not to follow through, James warns back in 4:17:
“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
There are sins of omission in dark and troubled times, my friends. Let us not be guilty. Of course, we have the example of the Prophets to strengthen us, men of like passions who endured (5:17-19). As it was with them, so it is with us:
“He which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins” (5:20).
The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ still has the power to save, and it does. Let’s go preach it.
I haven’t had a chance to upload any of the messages from James 5, but here’s one you might find comforting and encouraging from James 1:4-5, The Perfect Word of Patience. Indeed, genuine faith works best when it is cultivated in trial, allowing patience to have her perfect work (1:4). That perfect work of patience is more easily endured when our faith is conditioned to acknowledge our lack (1:5a) and to readily ask the Lord for help (1:5b). Waiting upon the Lord and resting in Him isn’t stoic. It’s dynamic and involves a lot of acknowledging and asking. Of course, this is simply one man preaching what he just lived in and through a trial of his faith that began on the side of a Montana highway and drug on for two long years. Patience indeed had her perfect work and yielded the peaceable fruit of righteousness, victory, and deliverance. Glory to God! He keeps His promises and gives wisdom liberally to those who ask, upbraiding not. That is all good news in troubled times. Hallelujah!
It would be a real blessing if you would help hold the ropes for us in prayer this summer. Stay tuned for Team Yeshua Big Sky testimony from both Montana and South Asia. Please pray for the Lord’s provision ahead of our long drive and throughout the coming months.
¡Maranatha!
