Using the Jerusalem Road as witnessing tool with Israeli travelers.
This morning, we finished up a teaching on the general revelation of God that all men in every place have heard. All men have heard from the Lord: CREATION declares there is a Creator. The CURSE of sin declares there to be a problem between the Creator and His creation. And the CONSCIENCE shouts said problem to be personal: There is a problem between the Creator and you. The solution to this grave dilemma is by special revelation, the Word of God. Many have never heard the answer to the problem. That’s why we gotta go tell ‘em.
CREATION, CURSE, CONSCIENCE = the Problem … the Answer = the CROSS
I then transitioned into the revelation of the cross by way of the Romans Road AND the Jerusalem Road. The latter is found in the Old Testament (what Jesus preached to the two on the road to Emmaus — Luke 24:44) and involves great OT verses for sharing with lost sheep from the House of Israel.
A good introductory stop on THE JERUSALEM ROAD is Jeremiah 31:31. God promised to give the house of Israel and the house of Judah a “new covenant.” The two words used in Hebrew are the exact two words that appear on the cover of the Hebrew New Testament (HaB’rit HaChadasha). God promised to give Israel a “New Testament,” and He did quite literally. Moreover, that New Testament contains the record of Jewish eyewitnesses concerning the Jewish Messiah, Jesus the Christ, and the testimony of how God made Him both an offering for sin (Isaiah 53:10) and a light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 49:6), just as it was foretold in the Prophets.
Team Yeshua Training Session in Manali
As the team went out street fishing today in Manali, I challenged each of them to seek out at least one Israeli and to show him/her Jeremiah 31:31 in the Bible and then to turn over to the very first verse of the New Testament and read it aloud: “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1). From this springboard, I wanted them to get into conversation about the things of the Lord and to offer up a copy of the Hebrew New Testament as a gift in the name of Messiah.
Manali, a popular stop on the Israeli Hummus Trail, is literally crawling with Israeli backpackers this season, many of them having just gotten leave from the IDF and in desperate need of a break from war and Middle East conflict. Most are traveling around India for 4-6 months dabbling in the idolatries of a foreign land, just as their fathers did in Kings and Chronicles. Very few of these have ever heard the Gospel message.
Long story short, we had 14 encounters with groups of Israelis today, and nearly all of them took Hebrew Gospel tracts. The team did great with Jeremiah 31:31 and Matthew 1:1, and two Hebrew New Testaments went out. It was a great day. One young man, Ori, was so very interested; and he conversed with Carter for nearly an hour. And one of those Bibles went into the hands of a newlywed Jewish couple on their honeymoon.
Some Great Israeli Encounters
Street Fishing and Trail Fishing in Manali
Some Nepali material also went out to Nepali laborers. It was good to be preaching in their language again. And, there was a good encounter with some Indian ladies and a guy from Bhopal named Manu.
That makes 21 Israeli encounters since arriving in India four days ago! Praise the Lord.
Tomorrow, we’ll fish some more here in Manali and then Friday, we begin a long 2-day drive over the Himalayas to Leh. It’s such a nice night here in Himachal Pradesh. The mountains came out just before sunset, the steep hillsides are a verdant green, and the Beas River can be heard raging in the distance from all the rain.
Not Looking Forward to Another Long Tempo Ride … the one from Delhi to Manali was long enough
A Nice Sunset in Himachal Pradesh
Thanks for holding the ropes in prayer.
