not a standalone chapter (hebrews 11)
This message was preached by Pastor Jesse Boyd on May 19, 2024 at New Testament Christian Fellowship in Conover, North Carolina. It is an introduction to Hebrews Chapter 11 in the larger exposition of the Book of Hebrews by the shared teaching of the NTCF Elders and its missionaries.
Is Hebrews 11 a stand-alone chapter? Is it just a “Who’s Who” of Old Testament examples to be admired on flannelgraph, in church pageants, and during the Sunday School hour? Or, does the greater context of the chapter demand more, especially for us living in these last days? No, the “Hall of Faith,” isn’t just a trophy case of examples to be paid lip service and an occasional reference. It’s the “them” of Hebrews 10:39 “that believe to the saving of the soul.” It contains TESTIMONIES to be EMULATED and REPEATED today as we forsake not the assembling of ourselves together (Hebrews 10:25). We must know them. We must remember them. We must emulate this genuine faith, looking always to Jesus, the author and finisher of such faith.
