intro to revelation 21, part 2: interposing & remonstrating (proverbs 11:10)
This message was preached at New Testament Christian Fellowship on December 6, 2020. It is the second of a 7-part miniseries delivered during the Advent Season to serve as a fitting introduction to the glorious portrait portrayed in Revelation 21. Accentuating principles from Proverbs 11 , this series highlights unsung heroes and details from the birth narrative of Jesus Christ while also detailing aspects of the believer’s future expectation and hope that ultimately culminates in a new heaven and a new earth.
Part 2 focuses is about what must happen for Proverbs 11:10 to become a reality: The righteous must interpose as did the wise men between the tyrant King Herod and his intended victims, the baby Jesus and his earthly parents. The biblical ministries of interposing and remonstrating are introduced and examples of important biblical and historical interposers are surveyed. Moreover, attention is drawn to the uniqueness of the American governmental system in which the people themselves are invested with the authority of lesser magistrates. Therefore, American believers duty-bound before God to interpose as did the wise men between tyranny and those suffering under it. The reality and promise of the new heaven and the new earth ought to motivate believers to engage in a regular ministry of interposing and remonstrating, especially in a society where the people themselves are invested with governing authority.
